Grass Knoll Petroglyphs and Ruin is an interesting adventure located near the confluence of the Price River and Grassy Creek in the San Rafael Swell. Please take only pictures and leave only footprints.

General Information:
Grassy Knoll Petroglyphs and Ruin contains some interesting rock art along with an historic structure. The site is accessible year round provided the roads are not muddy. Spring and fall are the ideal times for this hike. The area is very hot in summer and cold in the winter.

A GPS is extremely useful in verifying you are on the correct route and in locating the rock art. Navigation for this route is moderate. This route rated 1A I using the Canyon Rating System.

Trailhead Information:
The rock art is accessible to high clearance vehicles in normal weather conditions.

Grassy Knoll Petroglyphs and Ruin:
The site consists of many large boulders with petroglyphs on several of them. There are a couple sandal figures with transverse lines through them. One anthropomorph has a flat head, broad shoulders and a tapered trunk without extremities - Barrier Canyon Style. One Boulder is covered by a maze of interlocking lines, incorporating some small circles and enclosed spaces. Several stick figures are noted with short lower extremities but with large hands. Several small animal figures are present and one large circular figure with short legs.

On top of the ridge approximately 200-yards from the rock art is an interesting circular ruin. I have been told archaeologists have studied the ruin and found evidence of occupation from Archaic to Piute (modern) times.
